When Japan attacked Pearl Harbor that was a direct assault on the peace and safety of the US. You can argue that the US didn't really care about European affairs in the war (even though we were shipping massive amounts of war resources to Britain and the USSR) but when our own land was attacked we entered. Even if safety isn't a human right, it's still a privilege that the US decided to go to war to preserve. I don't understand the point that you're trying to make about "if the Nazis had won". Of course it would be written differently. You know what else would be different? The population of Jews, Gypsies, Slavs, people of color, disabled people after the Nazis finished the final solution in the hypothetical world you've proposed. The USSR was doing awful, awful things decades before WWII. You're using the classic reddit argument meme of "Well yes X did this but Y also did this so X isn't that bad."

The point I wanted to make is that mil spec, while hardly perfect, does point to a written specification that the item has to meet. “Military Grade” means nothing, it is marketing hype as it points to nothing. It is an overused term that is trotted out when you can’t point to specific standard or specification, but still want to IMPLY that it is something special. Much like those flashlights that that ex-fighter pilot used to hype on TV.That's always bothered me.
