The uniforms, the ceremonies, the commercials do really well to serve the dog-and-pony aspect of American military without acknowledging all the needless murder, occupation of foreign countries, and dirty politics going on in the background.The US military psychology of 'serving your country' is highly, highly calculated by people who know exactly what they are doing, and is designed to appeal to a broad swath of society (especially those in the 'young adult' demographic). No surprise that you initially were drawn to it, but once you experienced the reality, total kudos to you for seeing through the marketing veneer. I wish you the best in your post-military, vet life!
