Friend who is military has mentioned all this before. All the big equipment he uses is made with cheap replaceable parts that can be repaired or replaced with simple tools or no tools. He says it keeps people busy on base with constant maintenance and it keeps everyone fresh with troubleshooting and repairs.Without boring everyone to death(my job rip), different schedules of steel pipes, bars etc for pressure vessels and concrete reinforcement have very specific requirements in the military. They will likely have a specific engineer who ensures every fitting is coded and the steel is the grade advertised. A "military grade" supplier/contractor would streamline this process I would imagine.
