Aircraft grade is just a layman's term for 6061. There's plenty of shitty cast aluminum used in a lot of things. And it's a night and day difference. Considering 6061 is legitimately good enough to be used in aircraft I don't really see how it's that much of a marketing ploy. If you ask for aircraft grade aluminum in your widgets and I go with the cheapest die cast aluminum I can find you are definitely not going to be happy.6061 was usually reserved for parts that were going to take a very small working load but needed to look nice, such as trim beads or decorative caps.
