While there have been a small number of accidents I would say that, compared to the volume that has been safely stored, it is relatively safe to store it this way.First story I read said ammonium nitrate. Typically used as a fertilizer, however that was also the explosive component of the OKC bombing in the 1990s. That was a quantity that fit inside a box truck, not an entire storage facility like this was. The number of dead will be in the thousands when all said and done most likely.
