This isn't correct. The US had its shit together because this was already covered. The issue was that many states that had amazon presence were afraid that by charging a state tax on Amazon good being shipped within the same state amazon would pack up and leave which would be a huge blow to local economies, especially since we had 2 recessions in the 2000's. Previously states could only charge tax in their state if the company had a presence because the laws were specific in this case but vague when it came to not having a state presence. That has been the case for a while now as the supreme court ruled about 2 years ago that a state can force an online retailer to pay state tax even if there is no local presence. Here in California Amazon has been collecting sales tax for at least 10 years.

The point I wanted to make is that mil spec, while hardly perfect, does point to a written specification that the item has to meet. “Military Grade” means nothing, it is marketing hype as it points to nothing. It is an overused term that is trotted out when you can’t point to specific standard or specification, but still want to IMPLY that it is something special. Much like those flashlights that that ex-fighter pilot used to hype on TV.That's always bothered me.
