People dont really know how yet, but it's been suggested that fireworks lit it.A fireworks factory caught fire. Either a firework set off the ammonia nitrate. Or just the heat from the fire set off the ammonia nitrate. Either way the ammonia nitrate was stored badly with no safe guards in place and the leader there gas pledged that whoever's responsible will get well in deep trouble for this. In whatever form that will take there.

My friend in Beirut says that the Russians dropped off 50 tons of ammonium nitrate at that port in 2014. The government was supposed to clean it up but didn't and just left it there. They don't know how it was ignited though.Naw, Look for maps, I think he’s just behind the last warehouses, just in front of the tall apartment buildings. Otherwise it would have been impossible to get the low, unobstructed view of the white building from that angle. At least we know now that not everyone on the roadway I saw in other videos died... While there have been a small number of accidents I would say that, compared to the volume that has been safely stored, it is relatively safe to store it this way.First story I read said ammonium nitrate. Typically used as a fertilizer, however that was also the explosive component of the OKC bombing in the 1990s.
